The St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic's Tenth Season opens with a dynamic program of two world premiers and one Russian premiere.
The St. PCP won a prestigious 2011 Koussevitzky Library of Congress award to commission Laura Kaminsky of New York City to write a piano concert for the
St. PCP and American new music virtuouso Ursula Oppens. Ms. Oppens will make her first appearance at the Sound Ways Festival with the St. PCP performing
the world premiere of this work. Also on the program will be the Russian premiere of Pulitzer prize winning composer Steven Stucky's
Chamber Concerto written in 2009
for the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra of the United States. Both Ms. Kaminsky and Mr. Stucky will be present for the performances and offer a pre-concert talk to the
audience as well as classes at the Rimsky-Korsakov conservatory during the days prior to the concert.
The concert also includes another exciting world premiere: Leonid Rezetdinov's
Feuerwerk-Hana-Bi.

Darrell Ang, Conductor Laureate of the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic, returns for the 10th Anniversary season to conduct a program of contemporary Asian masters with a focus on Chinese composer YE Xiaogang.

The 2012 International Masterclass in Orchestral Conducting will be the fourth international workshop run by the St. PCP for talented young conductors who will come from all over the world to develop their craft of conducting under the tutelage one of St. Petersburg's most important teachers. The most talented participants in the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic's Conductor's Masterclass will be chosen to conduct on the final concert of the six-day intensive program.
