
2010 International Masterclass in Orchestral Conducting
2010 International Masterclass in Orchestral Conducting and Workshop with Jorma Panula and Alexander Polishchuk (Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory and former assistant to Ilya Musin) with the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic. Six days of classes and a final concert, April 27 through May 2, 2010.
In order to maximize podium time, only 12 participants (and 8 observers) will be invited to work with Maestros Panula and Polishchuk in April, 2010 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Maestro Polishchuk will run the first part of the class, and Maestro Panula will begn teaching after his arrival on the 29th of April. The workshop will include score study sessions, conducting sessions with two pianos, conducting sessions with the orchestra, and video review. All sessions will be videotaped. Between 4 and 8 conductors will be chosen to conduct on the final concert as part of the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic’s concert season. Each active
participant will receive significant podium time with two pianos and with the orchestra, as well as a certificate of participation signed by both faculty members. The conductors who conduct the final concert will receive an additional dress rehearsal and prize winners' certificate.
Podium time: approximately 80 minutes of podium with two pianos and approximately 70 minutes with orchestra for each conductor. The conductors chosen to conduct on the final concert will have additional time with two pianos and the orchestral dress rehearsal before the concert. Conductors who are observers only will have a special 2-hour class with Polishchuk on the Musin School of Conducting.

Schedule:
Participants should plan to arrive to St. Petersburg on Monday, April 26, and leave on Monday, May 3. Final concert will be on May 2.
Tuition (including room in apartments) for active participants: 2,490 USD.
Application fee: 25 USD, non-refundable.
There will be room for up to 8 observers (non-conducting students) to be accepted. Although they will not conduct in the masterclasses, there will be a special 2-hour class with Polishchuk on the Musin School of Conducting provided for these conductors.
Tuition for observers (including room in apartments) will be 750 USD.

After notification of acceptance, the tuition must be paid in full by March 15, 2010 to ensure a place in the course.
